Why I Built a Remote Team to Grow My Business

The decision to build a remote team has been pivotal for my company's growth. I did not think it was possible, but when COVID hit, I had to adapt and make it work. With the help of Leo Gestetner and Nick Brandt of Thankz, I started with 1 remote worker from the Philippines. I did not know the intricacies of hiring a remote worker from another country, nor did I have enough time to dive deep into it, so Thankz’s expertise came in handy.

*Donna was the first remote worker that I hired back in 2019.

Thankz pooled and qualified 5 skilled virtual assistants for me. I interviewed 2 and hired my first-ever remote team member in 2019. The advantages of embracing a remote workforce are numerous and compelling, and I'd like to share the key reasons behind this strategic move.

Work Ethics - One of the primary drivers for establishing a remote team is the high level of work ethic that can be found globally. When you recruit remotely, you tap into a pool of self-motivated and disciplined professionals. These individuals often thrive in a remote environment, where their productivity is proof of their commitment and responsibility. They take ownership of their tasks, ensuring high-quality output, which turns into a culture of trust and accountability within the team.

Access to Global Talent - The world is teeming with skilled talent, and limiting our search to a specific geographic location can be a significant drawback. By embracing a remote work model, we can source the best talents from anywhere in the world. This not only enhances the diversity of thought and creativity within our team but also ensures that we have the best person for the job, regardless of where they are located.

New Perspective - My team comes from diverse backgrounds, and when we encounter issues, we don't just find solutions; we find better systems and processes. Their fresh perspectives have been instrumental in our growth, and I couldn't be prouder of our team's achievements.

Efficiency for a Small Company - As a small company, we don't require the extensive in-person office activities that larger corporations might need. Our operations are streamlined, and our focus is on efficiency and results rather than office politics or maintaining a physical presence. This allows us to be agile and responsive, adapting quickly to changes and seizing opportunities as they arise without the overheads associated with a physical office.

Cost-Effective Without Exploitation - A remote workforce allows us to provide significant value to our clients while being cost-effective. By hiring remotely, we can offer competitive wages that are often higher than what local physical jobs in their home country might pay without the exorbitant costs associated with maintaining an office space. This ensures that our team members are compensated for their work, nurturing job satisfaction and retention while keeping our operational costs manageable.

Reduced Tension and Stress - Remote work significantly reduces the tension and pressure that often come with traditional office settings. Each team member has the flexibility to manage their private time and work stress in a way that suits them best. This flexibility lessens social pressure and allows everyone to focus more effectively on tasks. By outsourcing, we save time and money, and our team members benefit from the autonomy to manage their schedules, provided they meet their work responsibilities. This balance leads to a healthier, more productive workforce.

*Now, LACG 's core team has 4 remote workers from the Philippines and Europe and 1 on-site office and event support.

The first step in building your remote team is nerve-wracking, especially if you are unfamiliar with its process and legal aspects. But the outcome, based on my experience, has been rewarding. I started with one remote worker in 2019, and because of the quality of work and the increase in productivity within our team, I decided to hire more as I accepted more clients. I now have 4 remote workers in my core team and 1 on-site office & event support.
